Ankara stands out as the first and only capital of the modern Republic of Turkey. Although it does not have a coastline, the city offers many surprises for visitors. Especially for those interested in the Architectural Area, Ankara is an ideal city. In this context, it is necessary to open a separate parenthesis to these special houses known as Ayaş houses. Ayaş houses can be listed among the places worth seeing and exploring in Ankara. It is said that Turkmens who migrated to Anatolia once lived in these interesting houses, which are the center of attention of local and foreign visitors. The word Ayaş is used in Turkish to mean ‘bright, luminous’. The houses established at the base of the valley offer examples of Turkish houses architecture.
Ayaş Houses are generally designed as two storeys. The ground floor of the houses contains a barn, servant's room or pantry. The main moving area in the houses is the second floors. Depending on the size of the houses, these floors have an average of three and four rooms. Houses usually have a room for conversation. Ayaş Houses attract attention with their windows and doors, which are mostly of original structure. Over time, these historic houses are repaired by local governments or various institutions and brought into tourism. Located at the valley floor, close to the bazaar, the houses offer a wonderful view together. In repairs, care is taken to protect the texture created by the houses. Ayaş Houses date back to the Battle of Malazgirt. These houses are included in social life and, most importantly, tourism. As a result of the project announced recently, the district governor's office completes the repair of 74 houses. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism also offers support for these activities.
