Ankara State Museum of Painting and Sculpture

The Ankara State Museum of Painting and Sculpture, where the history of painting from the pre-and post-Republic periods can be examined with sample paintings, has been welcoming visitors since its opening on April 2, 1980.
The year of the building of the museum, which had an important place in the old Ankara life and where meetings, theatre representations and ceremonies were held, dates back to 1930.The museum building, a work of the I.National Architecture Period, is noted for its elegant design.
The museum has a restoration workshop, a frame workshop, as well as exhibition halls, props, various rooms and warehouses. The large museum collection, which includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, Turkish decorative arts, original prints and ethnographic works, gives its guests a visual feast. In this collection, the works of prominent Pre-Republican Turkish painters such as Abdülmecit Effendi, Zekai Pasha, Halil Pasha, Şeker Ahmet Pasha, Hodja Ali Riza, as well as a large number of contemporary painters can be seen.
The museum includes works awarded in state painting and sculpture competitions, as well as a large number of works acquired through purchases and donations.
