Air Force Museum

One of the most distinctive museums in Ankara is undoubtedly the Air Force Museum. Ankara residents can visit this interesting museum every day except Monday between 09:00 and 17:00. The main purpose of the Air Force Museum is to show the development of the aviation field in Turkey and to publicize and popularize this field. The high number of visitors to the museum indicates that this goal was met. Especially at the opening of the Air Force Museum, which reveals the history of the Turkish Air Force in detail, the efforts of 21.General Ahmet Donekçi, the air chief marshal of the Air Force, are important. The Air Force Museum in Ankara goes down in history as the second air museum opened in Turkey. As is known, the first museum was opened in Istanbul before. While the preparations for the museum are being completed, many aircraft and materials from the archives are transferred here. In 1998, Ankara Air Force Museum becomes ready for opening in 1998. Sabiha Gökçen, the spiritual daughter of Atatürk, takes her place in this grand opening. The Air Force Museum occupies a total area of 62 thousand square meters. Most of the museum is divided into two open and closed areas. In this section, the planes and helicopters that have been carefully stored and protected for many years are displayed. On the other hand, you can see that various models are exhibited in this area. The first flight attempts of Hazerfan(Polymat) Ahmet Çelebi are revived because of these models. The indoor hall of the museum is divided into some sections within itself. The Turkish and World Aviation History Hall is the place where most photographs and documents are shared. In addition, such sections as this closed hall; busts and streamers Hall, clothes Hall, memories Hall and female aviators, are of great interest. This section is probably attributed to Sabiha Gökçen.
