Karacabey Mosque

Karacabey Mosque is located within the campus of an educational institution in the Hacettepe neighborhood of Ankara, the city of history and culture that is the capital of the Republic of Turkey. In addition, this mosque is shown among the prominent religious buildings of Ankara. The Ottoman mosque, with a tile roof made of stone and brick, has five domes. It stands out with its polygonal body, glazed brick embroidered minaret and elegant tile workmanship. The architecture of the Karacabey Mosque, built in 1428 by Celaleddin Karaca Bey bin Abdullah, the Governor of Anatolia who died in 1444, is Sinaneddin Ahmed bin Abu Bakr al-Mushaymesh. Although the year of construction outweigh as 1428, there is no conclusive evidence. The mosque with its original architectural features greatly altered by the repair after earthquake happened in 1892 has undergone a new restoration in recent years,. Karacabey Mosque, popularly known as ‘Imaret Mosque’, has a rectangular plan. When the interior is examined, the final communion place with five sections, each covered with an oval dome, rich decorative elements, patterns, motifs, tiles, luminous lantern dome, the altar made after the earthquake and the wooden pulpit are among the important parts of the door. It is considered to be one of the most important historical mosques in Ankara. In fact, most authorities for Karacabey Mosque makes the description as ‘the most important mosque’.
