Red Midwife Tomb

10.07.2024 12:36

The Red Midwife Tomb, which is located almost parallel to the Oruç Gazi Tomb in Taşlıca District of Ankara, is a place frequently visited by Ankara residents and rumors about it.

According to this rumor, the name Anatolia comes from the Red Midwife. The narration in question is as follows:

Seljuk ruler Alaeddin Keykubat, who organized many expeditions to make Anatolia a Turkish-Islamic geography, also stopped by Taşlıca Village while he was on his way to conquer Başköy Greek Castle. The aim is to rest here with his soldiers.

The Red Midwife and Son Fasting, who are said to be among the people of the village, live. The Red Midwife feeds the soldiers with a barrel of buttermilk, and that buttermilk never goes out. Meanwhile, the following dialogue takes place between the Red Midwife and the soldiers queuing up for ayran:

-Fill it, my veterans,

+ Fill Main,

Fill up my puppies,

+ The main is full.

Hearing this, Keykubat calls the Kyrgyz midwife to her presence and donates the surrounding lands to his son Oruç Gazi as a home. He gives a certificate to the Red Midwife regarding this. The tomb was restored by a benevolent citizen in 2001.
