Aktopraklık Höyük Arkeopark and Outdoor Museum

Aktopraklık Höyük Arkeopark and Open Air Museum, located within the borders of Bursa, is currently the largest prehistoric park in Europe.

Resuscitation method is applied in the region which reflects the period exactly 8500 years before today. At the same time, the remains unearthed during all excavations in this area are exhibited in the Arkeopark.

Aktopraklık Höyük Arkeopark and Open Air Museum project is uncovered through the joint efforts of Istanbul University and Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. This special venue, which holds a mirror to the city's 8500-year history, attracts local and foreign visitors throughout the year. It is an example of a place that adds significant value to Bursa's tourism. This is a highly productive open-air museum, especially for archaeology students. It therefore welcomes both archaeology and various experts or students from different branches.

Aktopraklık Höyük Arkeopark and Open Air Museum is located approximately 24 kilometers from Bursa city center. This place is also extremely close to Lake Uluabat. The Arkeopark area, which is located exactly within the town of Akçalar, was discovered by chance in 2002. This discovery takes place through the Prehistory Department of Istanbul University. Immediately two years after the discovery, rescue excavations began in 2004 under the leadership of Necmi Karul. After the excavations, the Bursa Archaeological Museum starts to determine the site. During these studies, new remains are found very close to the mound. With these new finds, the project is further enlarged. According to the available data, the settlements in the mound area are Neolithic.

The Aktopraklık Höyük Arkeopark and Open Air Museum today occupies an area of about 190 acres. This interesting outdoor museum contains sections such as children's excavation houses, animation, exhibition rooms and reception building. It is possible to visit Arkeopark between 09:30 and 20:00.
