Dündar House

Dündar House, which has strengthened its place in the city of Bursa, especially in the last period of sightseeing tours, is also known as Hagios Loannes Greek Church. Some sources also refer to the Church of Yuannes.

As can be expected, the community of Dündar House experiences its most active periods when the Greeks lived in Bursa. When the Greeks have to leave the region to a large extent, this area is also covered by private property. There are already seven churches in the area called Zeytinbağı inherited from the Greeks. In the same way, monasteries and ayazmas(holy waters) can also be included in the heritage of the Greeks. Only three of these churches survive today.

Dündar House is among the buildings that have been moved from the 19th century to the present day. The western section, which has three floors, is today considered residential. To enter the main section you need to enter through an arched stone door. It is possible to find motifs on the walls that offer traces of classical Byzantine architecture. In Dündar House, which is located in Trilye, the area considered for worship is single-storey. On a grave stele here, an inscription written in Latin draws attention. Although its classical name is Yuannes Church, the building that stands out today as Dündar House is a place of worship worth examining in detail. Today three families sit as tenants in this special place, which attracts the immediate attention of local and foreign visitors who make their way to the town of Trilye. The windows at the entrance of the space are seen to be square in shape. The windows on the upper floor are relatively larger. On the third and last floor, the elegant arches above the windows add a different atmosphere. Stone carving can be found at almost every point of the place. The name of this place is inscribed on a marble column at the entrance door of the church. Those who want to visit the church have to turn their direction to Mudanya district.
