Iznik Lake is one of the largest lakes in the Marmara region.

Iznik Lake, which is one of the most important lakes not only in Bursa but also in the whole country, is the first place in the Marmara region in terms of the area it covers. It is also shown among the five largest lakes of Turkey. There are many picnic areas and tourist facilities around Lake Iznik, which is in the class of natural lakes. Numerous streams feeding this tectonic freshwater lake can be mentioned. There are also reeds or deltas in the areas where the streams intersect with the lake. The rich vegetation around the lake attracts the immediate attention of visitors to the lake.

Iznik Lake is especially in the foreground with night fishing. As it is known, this place is home to many species of birds during winter periods. The main reason for this is the freezing of a significant majority of the lakes in the Central Anatolia region during the same months. In this process, Iznik Lake is almost a shelter for groups of birds. Among the fisheries in the lake trout, carp, crayfish come first.

Iznik Lake is very rich in algae as well as plant species. This has an important role in feeding the fish. There is a three-month hunting ban on Lake Iznik. According to the surveys, the deepest part of Lake Iznik is around 60-65 meters. The lake was referred as Askania in ancient times.

Located in the central part of Gemlik Bay, the lake measures close to 300 square kilometers. At the same time, the height of the sea was measured as 85 meters. This particular lake, which runs in an east-west direction, is also very close to the Samanlı Mountains. Large plains in the middle of the Gulf and Lake Iznik are extensively farmed. The people of the region often picnic in the spring and summer months around Lake Iznik. At the same time, the area around the lake is very suitable for hiking.
