Stone Bridge

Although historical sites often come to mind when it is called Çanakkale, this city is also in the foreground with its natural beauties. One of them, the Stone Bridge, always attracts the attention of local tourists visiting the city. Located in the Bayramic District of Çanakkale city, The Stone Bridge fills the eye with its location and beauty above Tabaklar Creek. Cut and colored stones are used throughout the historic bridge, which was built in 1795. The total length of the bridge is around 27 metres. Its width is measured as 3 meters 85 centimeters. The stone bridge is adjacent to the Karsiyaka Mosque, which is also a historical site. Therefore, the bridge is called as the Karsiyaka Bridge among the people. The fact that the bridge is above Tabaklar Creek in particular adds a much more special air to the visual aspect here. The bridge has a total structure of three arches. Although its eye facing Taşköprü mosque serves as a street open to vehicle traffic, the bridge is generally closed to crossings. The plastered brick balustrades, which were recently constructed near one end of the bridge, seriously impair the aesthetics of the historic bridge. This situation is often the subject of criticism for history buffs. There are two inscriptions on the ledges resembling a balcony above the bridge. In this inscription, a lot of basic information about the bridge is given. All this information in the inscription is Ottoman. The stone bridge has long been considered as a symbol of the district. The historical bridge is definitely included in the promotional films about the district. It is not difficult in terms of transportation to visit as the city is also included in the central areas. Recent renovations have been brought to the agenda as the thought prevails that the historic stone bridge does not see the value it deserves.
