Erzurum Clock Tower, which was inherited from Saltuklus, one of the first Turkish states to accept the religion of Islam, is one of the oldest work of Islamic period in the city. The Erzurum Clock Tower was built by The Ruler of Saltuklu Abu'l Kasım in the 12th century. Built adjacent to the southeastern walls of the Inner Castle, the trunk of the tower is brick, and the base is made of cut stone. The tower, which defied time until the 16th century, is exhausted and its top is destroyed the clock which underwent repaires twice in 1848 and 1881, is finally added to the tower and reaches its present. It is not only used as a clock tower, but it is also a watchpoint. The tower, which serves the defense of the city and provides an integrity with Erzurum Castle, is among the oldest Islamic-era works of the city.
