One of the most beautiful examples reflecting Ottoman architecture was built in 1561 by Rüstem Pasha, the Grand Vizier of Suleiman the Magnificent. This building, which is one of the masterpiece examples of Ottoman caravanserai, architecture, accompanies the history of Erzurum. Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai has sections that are mosque, almshouse, restingplace, traders shops, a place where the camels, donkeys, oxes, buffaloes and horses are kept. It was intended to meet all kinds of needs of passengers day and night. However, the structures in which there were about 40-50 raider unions and shaped a kind of police station building Were called 'Ribat' at that time. It is known that in Erzurum The City of ,border , it is known that it was called ribat for a period. In later periods, mansion, shelter, barn and shopping center properties were also gained into Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai by expanding the borders of the Ottoman Empire to Tbilisi and the Caspian Sea over time. This historical monument, also called ‘Taşhan’ by the people, is now a bazaar where shops are sorted. There are usually oltu stone dealers in the bazaar and it's quite crowded.
