Kozanli Mosque

The Kozanli Mosque, located within the borders of Gaziantep, does not have an inscription that reaches today. Therefore, it is difficult to speak of any conclusive evidence of the year of construction, but the court records of that period point to the year 1647. The Kozanli mosque is mentioned as a Masjid in the official records of those years. The constructive of the historical mosque on the Kozanli quarter is Ali Bey. The plan of the mosque is rectangular and smooth cut stones are preferred in its construction. It is divided into six separate sections by means of two stone feet located in the middle section. The cross vaults in each of the sections draw attention. Pointed arches are seen in the part known as the last communion place. The last congregation place of Kozanli mosque is designed with a flat pan. Black and white stones unique to the city are seen on the door that allows you to enter this area. The mihrab part has pointed arches and is reminiscent of a niche with muqarnas. The minaret section is relatively short but has a thick structure. This area can be described as stunted and burmane. Because it doesnt look appealing aesthetically, after a time, thanks to a curved strip of this thickness diminished the muqarnas. The minaret is entered directly from inside the mosque. Here you can witness that grooved decorations are heavily favored. Kozanli mosque was converted from Masjid to mosque in 1688. This mosque is popularly known as’ Kozanoğlu mosque'. The mosque consists of two separate sections parallel to the Qiblah. A wooden structure, draw the boundaries of the woman's section with the vault. This section is subsequently incorporated into the mosque. The mosque's balustrade of the minaret balcony consists of stone slabs. The mosque was recently set on fire by some unfortunately obscure individuals. Certain parts of the mosque are damaged in this fire. Kozanli mosque underwent a major restoration in 2007. This restoration process is undertaken directly by the Directorate of Foundations. The historic mosque is still open for worship today.
