Baris Manco Museum

Barış Manço Museum, located within the boundaries of Moda quarter of Istanbul Kadıköy district, is one of the most important cultural values ​​of the city with the concept of a museum- house. This museum- house, which is also called as Barış Manço House, still maintains its popularity of the first day, although it has been a long time since he died, was built by Pape Kalfa under the guidance of British citizen Mr. Dawson in 1895-1900.

The house, which passed into other hands many times since the 1930s and was finally bought by John Whittall in 1965, was then called the Whittall Mansion. In 1984, Barış Manço started to reside here after buying the house from the Whittall family and restoring it. Reflecting the 19th century Victorian architectural style, the mansion was transformed into a museum after the death of Barış Manço in 1999 with the contributions of the Turk Halk Bank and Kadıköy Municipality. The first initiative that led to these efforts was taken by the family of Barış Manço who once said "Whenever people stop talking about a particular person, then that person is considered dead."

The Barış Manço Museum, which was opened to visitors in 2010 after all the efforts, has won recognition by housing the works, endeavors, achievements and personal belongings of Barış Manço in each part of the three-storey mansion. The Barış Manço Museum, which has become one of the most visited places in Istanbul- Kadıköy since it was opened, is within walking distance from the Kadıköy Pier. In the museum, where there is a wax sculpture next to the "Steinway B2010" piano through which Manço composed, the most interesting thing is the glass champleve liquor sets.
