The Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum

The Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum, named after one of the most important glass factories of the Ottoman era, offers a unique blend of history and art. The historical building of the museum was commissioned by Abraham Pasha, who rose to the rank of vizier under Sultan Abdülaziz and served as the gatekeeper of the Egyptian Khedive Ismail Pasha. Today, this historical structure welcomes visitors with its rich collection.

Historical and Architectural Features

The museum building was created by restoring the stable building that remained from the mansions, birdhouses, pools, and theater buildings constructed by Abraham Pasha in the 19th century within a vast 360-acre grove. The U-shaped stone building, reflecting the architectural features of its time, stands out with its magnificent structure. The museum's garden, home to 117 different tree species, also serves as a botanical museum, offering a visual feast with shades of green. Abraham Pasha meticulously selected and imported plants and trees that were not found in the Ottoman Empire, adding to the garden's diversity.

The collection of the Beykoz Glass and Crystal Museum showcases the evolution of Turkish glass art throughout history. The museum's collection includes unique pieces produced in Europe for Ottoman palaces, artifacts from the Seljuk period, and everyday items such as French-made perfume bottles, gas lamps, and water ewers. The museum, consisting of 12 thematic sections, displays 1,480 pieces of exquisite glass art.
