The Camera Museum is located in İncirli district, Osmaniye District in Bakırköy, Istanbul. Hilmi Nakipoğlu, who gave the museum its first name, was born in 1948 and started his career by printing black and white photographs with films in 6 by 6 and 6 by 9 dimensions.
Hilmi Nakipoğlu, a business person who loves photography, established a photography club in the 1960s while he was still studying at Private Istanbul College and started photographing all the activities in the school. He also deals with painting, music, theater and poetry and is interested in almost every branch of art.
By the 1970s, Hilmi Bey turned his interest in photography into collecting. In 1997, he established a school for mentally handicapped children and decided that his collection should be seen by everyone. Thus, the burgeoning idea is brought to life immediately and Hilmi Nakipoğlu opens the Museum of Cameras on the fourth floor of the school.
Today, the museum, which still operates in the place where it was founded, now serves photography and camera enthusiasts under the name of the Camera Museum. The museum collection, which exhibits the best examples of black and white nostalgia, is visited by thousands of people every year.
