Kaptan Pasha Mosque

Kaptan Pasha Mosque is located in Üsküdar, one of the historic districts on the Anatolian Side of Istanbul, on the street it gives its name. The building, which has a dominant position to the Bosphorus, is shown among the most naive Ottoman works in the region.

Kaptan Pasha Mosque has two courtyard doors. Next to one of them is a very nice fountain dated 1729. The mosque, which has today's imam lodging and a section for ablution in its courtyard, reflects the elegance of simplicity.

Entrance to the interior is realized to passing the last congregation place between the courtyard and the mosque. A spacious and bright ambiance prevails in the square planned mosque. The lower windows of the building have iron bars, and the windows on the upper side are framed with colored plaster. With its neat pulleys, elegant mihrab, pulpit and sermon lectern, Kaptan Pasha Mosque has a remarkable interior design.

The most significant loss of the mosque, which has damaged many parts of the mosque in a great fire in the past centuries, is that the tiles inside were damaged and destroyed. However, there is a tile in the mosque, also known as "Tekfur (feodal landlord) Palace" because it is from Byzantium, and it fascinates those who see it. Besides, tiles made in standard glass workshops are included in the temple. In this way, it is known as the mosque with the most beautiful tiles in Istanbul.
