Keçecizade Fuat Pasha Mosque

Located in Çemberlitaş Neighbourhood in Fatih District, Istanbul, Keçecizade Fuat Pasha Mosque is a historical building known for its stone works and sophisticated architecture. Keçecizade Fuat Pasha, one of the statesmen, marked the 19th century of the Ottoman Empire, built the mosque on the ruins of a masjid.

The single-minaret mosque is made of stone and tiles, in other words with a structure of masonry. The building with its spacious interior design provides the opportunity to pray on an area of 100 square metres under an octagonal dome. The most critical and impressive detail of the mosque is, of course, its relatively big windows. These windows ensuring the lightning of the interior space as well as its roomy appearance, look like a distinct characteristic of the building when observed from outside. 

The part allocated to the muezzin is built as a balcony, and the caved area in other words, mihrab, where the imam leads the praying, the minbar and platform sections stand out with their marble works. The minaret, next to the narthex, which is the area between the mosque and the small yard, is another interesting structure made of cut stones and adorned star patterns.

Following the repair in the 1970s, Keçecizade Fuat Pasha Mosque was damaged as a result of the last big earthquake more than 20 years ago, and it has been restored recently only for these damages. The historical mosque as one of the symbol buildings of Çemberlitaş is also open to visit and worship.
