Mağlova Aqueduct Bridge

Mağlova Aqueduct Bridge is located on Alibey Dam in Eyüp district of İstanbul in European Side. It is located in an area covered by forests. Its construction was began in 1554 and completed in 1562 by Sinan the architect, who is head architect of Ottoman Palace. However, it is estimated that there might be Roman aqueduct bridges on the same point previously. On the other hand, according to the authorities, it is one of the engineering masterpieces where Sinan the architect, brought his mastermind into the forefront, written in the history with golden letters.

It still carries water actively even after ages. When its technical details are examined, it is at 36 meters height and 257 meters long. It is a two layered aqueduct bridge. Foot of the aqueduct bridge, which its weight is decreased on vertical direction, are in pyramid shape on bottom. Thus, stability was increased.

In addition that its has eight big eyes on bottom, it also has smaller eyes mentioned as relieving bridge in the literature. The eyes are in different sizes which is again related with durability. It also consists of reinforcement characteristics related with wind, not only related with water. In general is an engineering masterpiece.
