Siyavuş Paşa Fountain

19.04.2024 03:39

The Siyavuş Paşa Fountain is located next to the Siyavuş Paşa Shrine in Eyüp, one of the ancient districts of Istanbul known for its large number of spiritual structures. It was built in the same year after the death of Siyavuş Paşa in 1602, an important statesman who held such positions as Governor and Grand Vizier in the Ottoman Empire.

The fountain is located on the street. It is made of cut stones. It exhibits an indescribable harmony with the walls of the mausoleum with its half-arch architecture. The inscription on the ornamental slab of the fountain contains the inscriptions “Ve min 'e-mai kull-i şeyyin-hayy, Sahib'ül-hayrat vel-hasenat Sadrazam-ı esbak, Merhum ve mağfurun -leh Siyavuş Paşa ruhiçün rızaenLillah El-fatiha 1011 (1602)”. In this Arabic article, it is briefly noted that this fountain is donated by Siyavuş Paşha, who was the Grand Vizier, and the people who drink water from here would better say the Fatiha prayer for him. Water flows throughout the day from the fountain, which has been restored following its origin in recent years.

The shrine of Siyavuş Paşa is one of the most visited shrines in Eyüp. Because it is located in front of the shrine, it makes people taste of its water.
