Soğukçeşme Street

02.04.2024 09:09

Soğukçeşme Street, with a water cistern dating from the Roman Empire, a fountain, and wooden houses of Ottoman times defines an interesting area famous for its historical texture in the Eminönü borough in Fatih district of Istanbul.

The famous fountain on Soğukçeşme Street, which stands out for its ambiance, dates from the 19th century. State dignitaries were the guests of the wooden houses in this location close to Topkapı Palace. This situation continued for a while after the Ottoman Empire, as the house where the 6th President Fahri Korutürk was born is located here.

The Byzantine cistern, a structure as old as Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia), is also an integral part of the street's silhouette. Today, the cistern houses a restaurant. The historic doors and windows of the houses on the cobbled street attract attention. There are restaurants and cafes around Soğukçeşme Street, which is also quite close to Ayasofya(Hagia Sophia). You can also see the shops nearby. This historic street greets you with history no matter where you turn.
