After the conquest of Istanbul, some of the Greek churches began to be used as mosques, while some churches were transferred to Armenians. Surp Hıreşdagabed Church in Fatih is one of these.

The structure, which underwent many repairs and had to be rebuilt due to the fires it experienced, was last rebuilt for the fifth time in 1827 by the decree of Sultan Mahmud II, in order to protect it from possible future fires, and was opened for worship by Patriarch Sdepanos III in 1835.

The remains of the saints Surp Ardemios and Surp Pepron, which were discovered during a restoration carried out in 2006, are also visited. Archbishop Tateos Trakyalı (1810-1875) and Mahdesi Mıgırdiç Efendi Antreasyan (died 1885) are buried in the church courtyard. The last restoration of the church was carried out in 2012 and it was consecrated by the Patriarchal Vicar Archbishop Aram Ateşyan and opened for worship.
