Tevfikiye Mosque

Tevfikiye mosque is located in the Arnavutköy district in the northern part of the Beşiktaş district on the European side of Istanbul. Its name is sometimes confused with the Teşvikiye Mosque in Şişli. It is also known as the ’Arnavutköy Mosque' too.

It was built by the 30th Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II, who brought many architectural works in Istanbul. It was built in the name of his son. After six years of construction works, it is recorded that it was opened for worship in 1838. The inscriptions and the Sultan Signatures stand out in the mosque, 

It has a large courtyard. Its interior, which has four doors, is 287 square meters and stands out with its spaciousness. It has masonry walls which are more resistant to possible fire and disasters. Sultan's Mahfil (the platform where muezzin makes Sultan perform prayer) part of the mosque, which has a single minaret, and the section between the courtyard and the narthex is elegant. The ornaments and decorations throughout the mosque, where there are 29 windows, are quite stylish. Its delicately crafted decorative ceiling will catch your eyes.

Tevfikiye mosque is one of the important Ottoman relics that adds great value to the skyline of the coastal part of Arnavutköy, a dynamic destination with its socio-economic life.
