Tomtom Kaptan Mosque

In Istanbul, the population began to concentrate in and around Beyoğlu with its flamboyant residences and consular buildings as of the 19th century. The epicenter of social life was Istiklal Street, a kind of symbol point of Beyoğlu. This effect increased the development in the region in a multifaceted way, while this caused new structures built within the vicinity. Before entering the mosque, the attractive fountain dated to the 17th century meets you in the idle state today. The mosque, which does not have a courtyard, consists of a basement and upper floor. It has a form close to the square. It was built in 1591 by a sailor named Tomtom Mehmet Kaptan. It is an exclusive mosque built on an area of 100 square meters. The masonry minaret is on the wooden roof of the structure. Blue colored tiles attract attention in the interior. It is a naive and extremely simple mosque.
