Topuklu Fountain

Topuklu Fountain that was built by the Twenty-first Ottoman Sultan Ahmed II, is located in the Kaleiçi neighborhood of the Çatalca district in the western part of the European side of Istanbul. In front of the fountain, built in the 17th century, there is also an ornamental pool. It is a rare artifact of modest size.

Topuklu Fountain, one of the works the Sultan left to Istanbul, is in a quite good condition even today and awaits its visitors. The tomb of Sultan Ahmed II is also within the Shrine of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman.

Sultan Ahmed II, who had a sensitive and edge temperament, was also a calligrapher, keen on poetry and music. He reproduced the Qur'an and other books. He cared a lot about the artists. He never made a decision without consulting those around him. Sultan Ahmed II was a sultan who thought highly of his people.

The fires occurred during short term reign of Sultan Ahmed II, who remained as sultan between 1691 and 1695, were experienced coincidentally at Cibali, Ayazma Gate and Bedesten caused most of Istanbul to burn completely. During this process, the Topuklu Fountain, built together with the reconstruction activities of the city, is a heritage from the past to the present.
