Tuğlacıbaşı Mosque

11.09.2024 00:32

Tuğlacıbaşı Mosque, located on Feneryolu street of Kadıköy, one of the districts of Istanbul, was built by Tuğlacıbaşı Hacı Mustafa Şevki Efendi between 1868 and 1869.

One of the most striking and most affecting features of the mosque is the star motifs at the balcony of the minaret. The citrus tree located in its courtyard, which gives people nostalgia with its fruits that ripen in winter, adds a different atmosphere to this mosque. Under this tree there is the Tomb of Tuğlacıbaşı Hacı Mustafa Şevki Efendi.

When you look outside, this mosque resembles a modest house. There is also a fountain in the courtyard of the mosque with a minaret with a single balcony. Especially in summer, when you are overwhelmed by the heat, the pleasure of taking a breath in the courtyard of the mosque by drinking water from this fountain is very refreshing.

The pulpit, mihrab, and sermon pulpit were all made of marble, and these parts of the mosque were added later. The minaret of the Tuğlacıbaşı Mosque, which was damaged due to lack of maintenance, was rebuilt in 1966. Although it is a great place of worship, this architecture, which looks so mundane from the outside, is one of its own characteristics.
