02.05.2024 08:41

Ya Vedud Mosque was built by Şeyh Abdulvedud during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. . A pulpit was added to the mosque, which was repaired by Mehmet IV's daughter Hatice Sultan. Therefore, it is also referred to as’ Sultan Mosque'. Ya Vedud mosque is located on the right side of the newly built Golden Horn Bridge on Ya Vedud Street. Ya Vedud is one of the names of Allah and means ‘O beloved’.

You'll access a small courtyard passing through the mosque gate. Above this gate there is a verse and a date. This date is the date when the mosque was repaired again. On the right side of the courtyard, the gate of the shrine stands out. In the basement of the structure, which has been built in Bazaar Mosque style, there are four graves identity of whom is unknown. The mosque is entirely built of wood. The single minaret of the mosque is covered with plaster, the pulpit is also made of wood.

During the construction of the Golden Horn Bridge in 1974, the basement and outer door of the mosque remained in the pit as a result of the rising roads. As a result of the construction works performed around the mosque, no houses left around the mosque so the congregation could not come and for this reason, it was closed in July 1990.
