Zeytinburnu Medicinal Plants Garden

Zeytinburnu district, on the European side of Istanbul, houses a scarce destination even in the world. Turkey's first medicinal plants garden, built on an area of about 14 thousand square meters, is located in the Merkezefendi District.

This giant garden's objective, where more than 700 species of medicinal plants are planted, is based on research, production, promotion, protection of species, controlled use, and raising awareness in this field through various activities.

At Zeytinburnu Medicinal Plants Garden, visitors can participate in workshops and volunteer gardening if they want. Therefore, if desired, it is possible to participate in different and informative activities such as clearing weeds, planting seedlings, and caring for poultry.

Herbarium, where plants that have become flowering in the garden of medicinal plants are collected and classified, is interesting; the greenhouse area where various plants grow is very striking. Sundial, natural calendar and backyard are among the important places to see within the scope of the trip. In the backyard there is the possibility to learn about ducks, turtles, cats, dogs and various insect species. Finally, in addition to some seedlings, there is also the sale of foodstuffs such as oil and honey.

Zeytinburnu Medicinal Plants Garden, one of the most pleasant attractions of Istanbul, which promises a full experience with both sightseeing opportunities and educational workshops, is not recommended for those who are allergic to plants.
