The Historical Elevator Building, one of the most important touristic and historical sites of Izmir, is a unique structure that sheds light on both the past and present of the city. This building, built by Jewish businessman Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu in 1907, is located in the Konak district of Izmir and was built to facilitate transportation between the two districts. The elevator is used to eliminate the 58-meter height difference between Mithatpaşa Street and Halil Rıfat Paşa districts.

History of the Historical Elevator

The stones used in the construction of the Historical Elevator Building were imported from Marseille. The building was powered by water power when it was first built, but was later converted to electricity. The materials and technologies used in the construction of the elevator are considered one of the engineering marvels of the period. The elevator, which was transferred to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 1942, is still actively used and serves visitors today.

Architectural Features

The historical Elevator Building is also very impressive in terms of architecture. Marseille bricks were used on the exterior of the building, and wooden and wrought iron details attract attention in the interior. The elevator consists of two floors and offers different panoramic views on both floors. Additionally, Asansör Cafe, located on the upper floor of the building, offers visitors an environment where they can watch the magnificent view of Izmir Bay.

The historical Elevator Building is open to visitors every day of the week. Entrance is free and so is the use of the elevator. Visiting hours are between 08:00 in the morning and 23:00 in the evening. You can relax in the cafe on the upper floor of the elevator and enjoy the historical atmosphere.

    Asansör benim en sevdiğim yerlerden birisidir. 1 kat çıkıyorsunuz ancak 4 5 kat a tekabül ediyor. Manzarası Bi harika. İzmir ayaklarının altında ve mis gibi deniz havası var.
