Ancient City of Labranda

The ancient city of Labranda in Milas, one of the historical districts of Mugla, is one of the most important ancient settlements in the Aegean. The city, which stands out as a center of religious importance, was founded on the summit of the high mountains by a tribe called the Carians, who had established dominance in the southwest of Anatolia since the end of 2000 BC.

The finds in the ancient city of Labranda, described as a sanctuary, date back to 6000 centuries BC and later. The city, which saw large-scale development activities in the 4th century and continued to exist for many centuries as the religious/cult place of the polythanridic Carians, also existed during the time of the Roman Empire. Finally, after a great fire in the 4th century BC, it lost its importance. Therefore, it appears that the settlement survived for about 1000 years.

The discovery dates back to the end of the first half of the 20th century... When excavations at the ancient settlement of the ancient city of Labranda were first initiated in 1948. Finally, several excavations were carried out in 2014.

There is also a Byzantine church dating to the 4th century in the ancient city of Labranda, which is notable for its parts such as fountain, baths, banquet hall, temple with columns. In general, it is clear that it is in better condition than many ancient cities dated to the same period.
