Ancient City of Pedasa

The ancient city of Pedasa, located in the Bodrum district of Muğla in the southwest of Turkey, is one of the places of interest in the region. The origin of the ancient settlement, about 4.5 kilometers from the district center, dates back to the 1500s BC.

Archaeological excavations continue in the area, the remains of settlements, stone roads, some parts of the city walls, theater and a few columns can be seen in the city center. In general, surrounded by a wooded area, the traces of thousands of years ago are exciting for enthusiasts. The ancient city of Pedasa, which is proposed to be visited as part of cultural trips, is one of the hidden historical values in Bodrum.

The city's history is very important. It was founded by the Lelegs, who settled in present-day Mugla and its surroundings after the Trojan War. The ancient city of Pedasa is recorded to be the largest settlement in this scope.

The Lelegs were indigenous people before Greek rule in Anatolia and influenced the said civilization in many ways. For example, according to written sources, the Greeks learned from Lelegler to attach handles to their shields and carry them in this way. Before, they hung their shields around their necks in battles.

It is also known to have important influences in terms of architecture.
