Yediler Monastery

Yediler Monastery, located in the Milas district of Mugla, attracts attention with its rich historical ruins. Its location in the shadow of both Lake Bafa and the ancient city of Keramos makes it even more valuable.

Yediler Monastery is entered through a courtyard. A total of two churches, a chapel and a cistern are located within the space. The intersecting cells, on the other hand, are also notable. The monastery is seen to be in large blocks of rock. At the same time, the weaves in the wall sections attract visitors. Located in the northern part of the village of Gölyaka, the monastery is worth a visit with its deep history.

The area is also close to the District of Söke and has some very valuable frescoes. Unfortunately the frescoes start to get a little vandalised lately. Due to both external conditions and lime, some deterioration occurs in these frescoes over time. Frescos and symbolic scenes depict the life and crucifixion of Jesus. Unfortunately, the lack of protection has had some negative consequences.

The Society for the conservation of the ecosystem makes some attempts to address this situation. Muğla Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism approaches these initiatives positively and will carry out a special study on the protection of the frescoes. According to the information transmitted through written sources, Yediler monastery was built in the 7th century BC. German archaeologists ' research within the region indicates that the oldest human depictions identified in history are here. Gölyaka and Kapıkırı are among the sacred areas especially for Christians. This allows the region to be visited more by foreign tourists.
