Nevşehir Castle

Nevşehir Castle, one of the city's landmarks, is located on a hill that dominates the plain, which runs just below it. It is located in Eskili District, close to the city center. Although it is not clear, it is thought to have been built by the Seljuks in the 12th century to protect the important trade path that passes near it. On the other hand due to some architectural details, it is thought that it may have been built during Byzantine domination in Nevsehir. After joining the Ottoman lands, the castle was actively used several centuries by removing the damage it took, and it was repaired for the last time about 50 years ago. There are also donjons and drains in the castle, which is predominantly cut stone. There are two entrance gates. It is located in the area where the first settlement began in Nevşehir and is close to the historical heritage slated to be discovered in this respect. In this context, the underground city near Nevşehir Castle, an archaeological site, and the church carved into the rock with pictures of Jesus Christ are the highlights of the region.

Nevşehir’e geldiyseniz mutlaka görmeniz bu manzarayı kaçırmamız gerekir. Bizans lardan kalma şehrin her yerine hakim olan bir mevkiye konumlandırılmış.
