Trabzon, which has been home to many civilizations over the years, people from different cultures have called home for many years. After the conquest of the city, Muslimization efforts were also given great importance to the dissemination of mosques. The house of worship built here also has a special significance, as it is located in the center of the city and located in a frequented spot. İskenderpasha, who served as governor of Trabzon for many years, has also built beautiful works for the city that endured and reached to the present day. There is also a complex with the mosque in it under the name of the pasha. İskender Pasha, one of the Governors of Trabzon of the Kanuni period, built the mosque in 1529. It is also known that the mosque, whose inscription is located at the outer gate, was repaired in 1882. Although the madrasah in the courtyard of the mosque has not survived to this day, the tomb of İskender Pasha is located in the courtyard of the mosque. The mosque's minaret, which has a tremendous stonework, is made of colored stones. The original plan of the building is similar to the Green Mosque in Iznik. It is also worth noting that the first name of the mosque is Cami-i Merhum İskender Pasha(Late İskender Pasha Mosque). The mosque, which has its inner walls plastered, has hand painted oil paint decorations on it’s dome’s skirts and interiors, pandantifs, around windows and on walls.
