Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, located in the Edirnekapı district of Istanbul's Fatih district, is among the most visited historical mosques on the European side of the city.
Located in the center of Mihrimah Sultan Complex, the mosque was built by Mimar Sinan between 1562 and 1565 by the order of Mihrimah Sultan. The entrance of this holy place of worship, which has a rectangular plan, is at the narthex in the northwest direction, facing the same courtyard as the madrasah in the kulliye. In addition, the entrance of the mosque is covered with a dome with a diameter of 20 meters. The last congregation place has seven domes and eight marble granite columns.
The mosque, where the entrance is provided through the crown gate, also has a dome only on the western wing. Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, which has exactly 204 windows, has 161 windows placed in the dome and in the arch.
The mosque, which was damaged in the earthquakes of 1766, 1894 and 1999, underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2009 and was reopened for worship. Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in Edirnekapı, which is shown among the most important historical and religious places remaining from the Ottoman Empire, is in harmony with the other mosque of the same name in Üsküdar.

26.08.2022 06:36Mimar Sinan'ın muazzam eserlerinden biri daha...Esasında sadece camii binasını barındırmayan , şimdiki manada hayat merkezi yani o zamanki manada külliye olarak tabir edilen bina...Görmeye,gezmeye değer
